The work around the research

The roles that sit alongside my publications — flying autonomous drones with a student team, chairing an international workshop, and teaching the next cohort of engineers and AI researchers.

Obstacle-avoidance algorithms

  • Designed an autonomous-flight obstacle-avoidance algorithm from scratch with very low compute — O(N) per time step, fast enough for real-time use on low-power chips.
  • 0.026 s of computation on an ordinary laptop simulates 78 s of flight path.
  • Pacific Site Champion, MATLAB Minidrone Competition 2021.
